Orion Jean is only nine years old. In his heart, he carries the Christian ideals of kindness and giving. Kindness is free. Kindness is infectious. This line inspires North Texas 9-year-old kid to do something very kind for kids in a hospital.
The Little Samaritan
The nine-year-old fifth grader has embarked on a mission of kindness. When he finds time from his hectic school schedule in the Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD (virtually for now), he spends it with the underprivileged and sick kids.
Orion Jean’s story featured on NBCdfw.com. Jean feels that it does not cost anything to make other people’s life easier. Kindness is free, and one should give it out as often as possible.
Jean is doing precisely that. Orion and his family drop off more than 600 toys for Children’s Health Dallas. Jean has named his mission’ Race to Kindness’ campaign. Jean credits the success of his mission to teamwork and a grand prize he had won for being kind.
Race to Kindness
The inspiration for the mission came from an essay competition in which Orion participated. The competition was a national kindness speech contest hosted by Mr. Brian Williams, the founder of Think Kindness. Jean made it into the top twenty. It wasn’t just a win for Jean but also a win for all the community. He also received a cash prize to start his very own kindness project. It was the beginning of a series of events called the “Race to Kindness.”
Jean received a lot of toys. He also received many donations used to buy 600 toys for children in the hospital. Jean is not resting on his laurels and plans to do bigger things in the future.
“And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and does not refuse the one who would borrow from you.”
