Michael Jordan has returned to North Carolina and joined up with Novant Health to open a second facility. The new clinic was funded by a $7 million grant for NBA legend and hometown hero Michael Jordan.

The facility will provide behavioral health and social support services, focusing on addressing the current health equity gaps that have been exacerbated by the current situation the world finds itself in.

Jordan’s first funded health clinic has improved the health of the communities. CNN reports Jordan appeared on a Zoom call when he said, “When we came together to mark the first clinic’s opening last fall, no one could have predicted we would be facing a global pandemic just five months later. I’m so proud of the positive impact our clinic has had on the community so far.”

The first clinic Jordan helped open saw more than 3,000 patients, with 450 of them being children. Of those, 700 were helped by the clinic’s full-time social worker. For the last seven months, the clinic has shifted into a respiratory assessment center.

The new clinic much larger and offers more services.

The clinic will be 6,800 square feet and include 12 patient exam rooms, an X-ray room, and physical therapy space. It will also implement the Freedom Drive clinic’s service model, which includes a full-time clinic social worker on-site. Anyone can use these clinics, even those without insurance, which is a big setback for many looking for medical services.
