Life for Darell Hall, an ex-con, was difficult. Sentenced to life in prison for possession with intent to distribute, Hall spent 13 years behind bars before he was paroled.
Things changed after new DA, Paul Howard started a Conviction Integrity Unit to help convicts who received disproportionate sentences to their crime. Hall was one of the cases that came for review, and he qualified for release.
The Stigma of Being a Convict
Coming out of the gallows, the 52-year-old ex-convict found the going tough. Talking to Madamenoire.com, he said that he gave many interviews, but did not hear from any of the potential employers. The stigma of an ex-convict hung over him. DA Howard had a solution for him.
Good Samaritan Offers Employment
Hall got the offer of his life while attending an event organized by Fulton County District Attorney’s office in Atlanta. He learned that Tyler Perry had a job opportunity for him. Tyler Perry gave a life-changing opportunity to a man in need. Initially, it was not clear what work he will be provided. Hall had also learned some skills during his incarceration. Skills he learned include horticulture, lawn care, janitorial skills, and he had taken cooking classes.
Forgive and Move On

The Bible teaches us that “there is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). All have sinned, and we must find God’s forgiveness if we are to save ourselves from the consequences of sin. People like Tyler Perry set a precedent for others to follow. Second chances don’t come along very often for most of us. When one is able to provide the opportunity, that is for sure doing good.
