Blessed are the ones who feed the hungry. Also, blessed are the people who get a chance to do some holy deed in trying circumstances. Mercedes-Benz USA is helping feed communities who are not able to manage two meals a day.

The company has joined hands with Atlanta Public Schools. It will operate through its Curbside Caring Initiative to provide food to the underprivileged. The company has opened its corporate cafeteria kitchen at its Sandy Springs headquarters. It will  enable considerable scale preparation of meals. Flick Catering Service has taken the onus to prepare 1000 meals per week for seven weeks.

Fulfilling its social responsibilities

The 1000 meals distributed by PAWKids is a children’s enrichment program. It serves the Oak Grove neighborhood in Atlanta. Second Helpings Atlanta will pick the next installment of 1000 meals. Food banks and other charities will get food packets.

Second Helpings Atlanta is already involved in charity work. It picks up, and redistributes surplus food from grocery stores. Also, Mercedes Benz is loaning three vans to be used to distribute meals during the public emergency. The beneficiaries are Atlanta Public Schools, Second Helpings, and Open Hand Atlanta. Open Hand is serving meals to 5200 ill persons around Atlanta.

Feeding the poor

These are trying times, and the charitable organization is finding it difficult to carry out activities because of a shortage of volunteers. Community relations specialist for Mercedes, Kat Reynolds, said, “This [initiative] ultimately supports so many more clients across the metro Atlanta footprint.”

Feeding Emergency Crew

Mercedes-Benz is also buying lunch for 100 police and fire fighters. Sandy Springs Public Information Officer Salvador Ortega said to AJC, “We try to thank people for what they do for us. It’s a just overwhelming show of support.”

“Last Thursday, Mercedes brought City Barbecue. Today it was Breadwinner Café [and Bakery].”

The Bible says that when you serve a stranger, you are actually serving God. Show others you care by volunteering at your local food bank, your time and effort will certainly be worth it.
