A body camera that honestly recorded a police officer’s generosity has become viral on Facebook. John Freitag is a veteran and presently posted in Washington Township. He saw a Wawa man who was facing some difficulty in paying for his gas. There was some issue with his credit card. John became his savior. Every Police Officer wears a bodycam. Bodycams activate automatically when any police officer is called out to any stop.
The department posted Freitag’s video but never thought that it would become viral.
Community Caretaking
“Community caretaking”. Yes, this is the model and mission that police officers of Washington Township aim to carry out each day.
The Police department put out the video, and it got 40,000 views in an hour. It also helped to shore up law enforcers’ image, especially after the unfortunate George Floyd incident. The video also shows that there are people who still believe in doing noble things, even if they are police officers.
John feels the job of a police officer is such that there is hardly any situation where there isn’t an opportunity to display compassion and empathy for people. So whenever there is an opportunity to impact someone’s day, never leave it. He was talking to Action news.
Kindness Part Of The Philosophy
Chief Patrick Gurcsik said that “community caretaking” is part of their philosophy. Every police officer at the end of his day’s stint has to detail how they went the extra mile to help a community member.
Freitag added that often the real person gets lost under the uniform. However, they do have feelings of empathy, compassion. Every officer strives to gain the community’s respect.
